Thank you for being here. Tell us a little about yourself
I love to eat, I tend to talk (a lot), and I can be somewhat melodramatic. I use theatrical story-telling about all sorts of cuisines that I indulge myself in all the time – from fine dine, to local street foods, to international trips to home cooked comfort food!
What are your thoughts on the Food & Drink scene in general.
The Food scene in Dubai, to be specific, is on the road to be booming. The culturally diverse population encourages chains and chefs to start building their brands here and it is endlessly adding to the variety – giving the best of all worlds.
What are the Top 3 factors that customers consider before choosing a place to eat.
In my opinion, the top 3 should ideally be food, food and only food. However, the general trend I’ve seen is ambience, food and then the value for money.
How important are mobile apps and social media in the decision-making process?
With the influx of apps like UberEats, Zomato, Eat, Yelp etc. any customer is bound to rely on reviews based on these apps and/or social media page. Their importance should be acknowledged because they connect many minds together that share the same sort of palette. Having said that, social media encourages a lot of influencers whose credibility is sometimes on the bridge of doubt.
How could F&B businesses in the UAE improve their service both online and offline?
The only thing that UAE lacks is customer service. F&B brands from all over the world come to hub their chains here, but the spoilt nature of workers influence businesses to underperform and a lot of brands go by unacknowledged. As for online, I feel social media is huge for F&B and some bloggers who post out of sheer passion really assist home grown brands in spreading the word out!
What predictions do you have for future F&B trends?
If anyone wants to make their name in the city right now, it’s to step into F&B for sure. This industry will take the Middle East on a whole different level when it comes to restaurateurs, food delivery, catering etc.
